Why Pink?

Modern society, in general, underestimates the power of women, which I believe is more-aptly named “the power of pink.” According to Wikipedia, the people’s voice, pink is a combination of red and white. Red is a symbol of power, and white is a symbol of brilliance and purity. We women are just that: powerful, brilliant, and pure. As women, we must celebrate our pinkness! Think of all of the BOLD pink in our society:

-Pretty In Pink (best movie of the ‘80s)

-Miss Piggy (she’s pink)

-Pinky Tuscadero (Fonzie’s girlfriend—she’s spunky pink)

-Pink Diamonds (rare)

-Pink breastcancer symbol (powerful sign of hope)

And…consider this: pink is the color of cotton candy, bubble gum, and babies.

Pink even smells good.

Pink is romantic. Pink is charming. Pick is alluring. Pink is sexy. Pink is the ULTIMATE color of femininity.

Pink boas, pink underwear, pink gloves, pink bras, pink hats, pink cars, pink tennis shoes, pink toothbrushes, pink cell phones, pink guitars, pink laptops, pink cameras, pink pots-n-pans, pink watches. Pink is everywhere around us, but when we recognize it, we fail to see its REAL power.

Pinkness needs to be honored! Women hold within their wardrobes of life magnificent pinkness—and it needs to be worn more often!

Coco Chanel, Mary Kay Ash, Estee Lauder. Audrey Hepburn, Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep. Meg Whitman, Hillary Clinton, Suze Orman. Amy Vanderbilt, Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart.  J.K. Rowling, Harper Lee, Isabelle Allende. Gracie Allen, Helen Reddy, Cher. MaryLou Retton, Billie Jean King, Flo Jo. Ella Fitzgerald, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Madonna. These ladies are the essence of PINK. Imagine what our current lives would be like had they not stepped into their pinkness. I’ll tell you what it would be like: jazz singers would still wear suits and ties to clubs, bras would still look like something out of 1920’s Sears Catalog, and abortion would still be conducted in back alleyways. We’d be less organized, more financially dependent on others, and increasingly alienated from our spirituality and essence. We’d read less, “command-and-control” more, and sit in the back of the room. Pink is too beautiful, too smart, and too important to be put in a corner!

Pink complements black, shows off white, and highlights green. Pink accents purple, emphasizes red, and draws attention to blue. Pink is NOTICABLE. Know your color palette, ladies! Pink IS powerful!

Pink is passion. Pink is smart. Pink is sassy, especially when it’s worn with a little bling-bling. Hot Pink Stilettos? Nothing like ‘em! They scream “I am woman, I am here, I am fabulous!” They exude confidence, allure and mystery (what kind of woman wears pink stilettos?), bravery, strength (ever tried to walk more than a block or two in those suckers?), sass, fun, screw-the-world attitude, to the point, direct, spunky, spikey, and you don’t want to get kicked by one. Plus, they look fabulous when paired with black flared pants. They are the shoes of a modern, professional, female warrior.

When you wear pink stilettos, you feel taller, you feel more important, you feel a little shaky but willing to take the risk, you feel a little “Sarah Jessica Parker” in Sex and the City. You feel ALIVE, you feel like you look GREAT, you feel young, you feel like you can conquer ANYTHING (which, if you’ve ever tried walking in stilettos and were successful, you would know this to be true).

To wear a pink stiletto, you gotta believe and/or have:

Moxy

Brashness

No fear (or at least you disguise it well behind your pink D&G eyewear)

Confidence

Sex Appeal

“it” (as in, GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRLLL, you got IT goin’ on!)

Strength

Agenda/direction (you don’t usually wear pink stilettos for no reason at all)

Inner power

You can do whatever you want

You can do whatever you set your mind to, no matter how hard/challenging/difficult

Pink is also soft, sensual, and alluring. Pink is the color of morning sex. Pink is gentle. Pink smiles at you. Pink is at peace with itself. Pink is accepting of others, especially herself. Pink slippers: warm, fuzzy, cozy, comforting, relaxation, soft like a worn flannel pillowcase. Pink is welcoming, nurturing and safe.

Pink Kleenex wipes your tears.

Pink is playful. Pink is fun. Pink is the color of fairies, princesses, and rose petals.

Pink is the color of love.

Pink offers SO MUCH and has SO MUCH to offer. So, why don’t more of us wear pink???

We need to stand in solidarity for our PINKNESS. I declare a National Pink Day! Honoring the inherent POWER of women, their shining BRILLIANCE, and their PURITY of intention to live lives that are fulfilling, purposeful, and ALIVE! Get out your pink glitter, don your pink toe polish, and put a pink plume in your bodacious hat! We’ve got work to do, Ladies! Women–we must rise to the occasion of celebration and revel in our pinkness!
