Failing Forward

Notes On Life

SHOW YOUR WORK CHALLENGE DAY #23

Failing Forward. This is what it looks like (below). The following is the post I sent early this morning to some of my trusted advisors because there are lessons that others might gain from my experience and reflection on it. I was urged to share it publicly, so I’m doing that here.

Posting for release (my own release that is).

Last July, I started a journey with a company called Blanchard Coaching, out of San Diego. They are a middle-man-coaching-broker type of company. They were doing a “call for resumes” from coaches in the Midwest. I thought “what the hell…I’ll give it a shot.”

Three months and three rounds of interviews later, they told me they were recommending me to “meet the client” and that they thought I was bar-none one of the most talented coaches they’d seen in a while.

Fast-forward to March. I learn that the Fortune 100 Company (whose name I must hold confidential because I agreed to do so), which is based out of Milwaukee, wants to invite me to come to their headquarters. I begin email convos with a Senior HR person right before Easter to schedule a time to meet. He tells me he is excited to “get to know the person behind the paper.”

Yesterday evening, I got this from Blanchard Company:
I am emailing you to let you know that the Fortune 100 Company has decided not to move forward with your application. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We wish you the best moving forward.

I replied with a standard thank you, etc. and remarked that I thought this was strange because they had seemed so excited. They replied that no specific info was given to them as to why the Fortune 100 took a pass on me.

SO–the young girl in me feels rejection. Hurt. And she is stomping her foot while wanting to hide because she feels not good enough for corporate America.

The wiser, divine, inner business manager is like “totally awesome…we’re not interested in climbing into that corporate boat anymore…we’re not going where they are.”

My warrior princess is like “Fuck that shit. That’s some bullshit and jive that they don’t want you. Let’s man-up and go after more companies that WILL hire us” (btw, notice her MAN UP language).

And my dear, true, beloved self at the core says “oh, sweet woman…this is perfect. You are not right-aligned with corporate kind of work because it is not your soul work…you don’t need it anymore…your divine path is VERY different. I really wish you’d believe that. We’re (me and your angels) taking care of this for you. You are so divinely held. We love you so much and think you are so special that we want to crawl up inside your heart and just live there forever…but we have work to do that includes continuing to call forth the rightly-aligned opportunities for you.”
